Paronella is a dream come true. Choosing a beautiful part of Australia, Mena Creek Falls, José Paronella’s dream was always to build a castle, and build a castle he did. On 5 Hectares of land that encompasses the beautiful falls, he constructed his castle and wrapped it in an amazing range of tropical plants and trees that has since bloomed into a tropical jungle.
Since then, it opened to the public in 1935 and the park has received multiple Queensland Tourism Awards. It’s state and national heritage listed and is a National Trust listed property.
Still privately owned and operated the park is completely Eco accredited and interestingly is also the side of Queenslands 1st privately owned hydro-electric plant.
Paronella park is a two -hour drive from Cairns along the beautiful coastline. Take the “old” bruce highway after Innisfail rather than turning right and heading for Townsville along the Bruce Highway. Just south of Innisfail you’ll find a handy Visitor Information Centre.
It’s well worth the trip, Paronella is the winner of a #1 Must Do in Qld Award and many others. Come for the day or stay for a fantastic night experience to feel the incredible atmosphere.
Take a 45 minute daytime storytelling tour to discover the history of the park and the man who made his dream come to life.
With something for everyone Paronella Park is a fantastic place to visit from Cairns.
