The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is located in the centre of Kuranda, not far from Cairns. Explore the world of Exotic butterflies and fantastic gardens.

Kuranda itself is nestled amongst the rainforest and the Sanctuary is home to more than 1,500 species of colourful tropical butterflies that flitter and flutter around their large tropical enclosure.

All of these species are native to the region and can be found in the surrounding lush tropical Australian rainforests.

Don't be freaked out! They will land on you but of course they are harmless and want for nothing more than a perch to rest between flights.

Experience the breathtaking beauty of the vibrant electric blue Ulysses butterfly, the unofficial emblem of Tropical North Queensland. You can also see the majestic iridescence of the Cairns Birdwing butterfly.
